ELLIGATE Edward (Ned) 1867-1916; son of John and Mary nee Gleeson; born c1867 Indigo; died at Beechworth 7th December 1916 aged 49 years [vrn 13072] and was buried in plot 109-7-RC at the Barnawartha cemetery on 8th December 1916.

The death occurred at Beechworth on Thursday, December 7, of Mr Edward Elligate, farmer, of Upper Indigo. Deceased, who was 49 years of age, had been in indifferent health for some months, and leaves a widow and family of two children. The funeral took place on Friday last when the remains were interred in the Barnawartha cemetery. Service at the graveside was read by the Rev Father Cremin, and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr A H Smith.

Edward married Devitt, Margaret Ann on 10 May 1910 in Chiltern, Victoria, Australia. Margaret (daughter of Devitt, Patrick Joseph and Boyce, Mary) was born on 22 May 1880 in Chiltern, Victoria, Australia; died on 28 May 1962 in Wodonga, Victoria, Australia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

BARNAWARTHA.

A wedding took place in Chiltern on Thursday, when Mr. Edward Elligate, sec ond son of Mrs. Elligate of Upper Indigo, was married to Miss Margaret Ann Devitt, eldest daughter of the late Patrick and Mrs. Devitt also of Upper Indigo Creek. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Fr. Smith. Miss J. Elligate (sister of groom) was bridesmaid, and' Mr. W. Devitt (brother of bride) best man. After the
ceremony the happy couple returned to their new home, where they had to under go the ordeal of the old time cusom of tinkettling.
